XPNMusicNotes: See the Grateful Dead’s last shows, watch Blur’s Damon Albarn get dragged off stage, and New trailer for ‘Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!’ released


The Grateful Dead played together for the final time as a band, live @ Chicago’s Soldier Field this weekend. Watch some of the performances.

The surviving members of the Grateful Dead teamed up with Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio along with Bruce Hornsby. Anastasio replaced Jerry Garcia, who died in August 1995 of a heart attack. Soldier Field was the setting of the Dead’s final show with Garcia in July 1995.

Ben Folds is going release his latest album on September 11th. The new album is called ‘So There’  The album began with a commission from the Nashville Ballet and the Nashville and Minnesota Symphony Orchestra to create an original musical score for a new ballet. The end result is a 21 minute Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in 3 movements. Next came his collaboration with yMusic, a critically acclaimed classical sextet from New York who helped Ben Folds bridge his pop/chamber rock songs with the concerto. The ensemble will also be joining Ben Folds when he makes his Royal Opera House debut on August 12th, for a live show.
