The Roots’ drummer Questlove continues to wear a multitude of hats, from music history commentator to music supervisor in the film world. We just got word that Quest will oversee the sonic landscape of A&E‘s remake of Roots, the iconic 1977s miniseries based a book by the late Alex Haley. The story offers an honest depiction of American slavery by following the character Kunta Kinte, a slave based off of one of Haley’s ancestors. Roots will be a four-night, eight-hour miniseries, set to air in 2016. We’re looking forward to seeing how Questlove’s creative involvement adds to the final product. For a preview of Questlove’s production skills, see Broadway musical Hamilton, which he co-produced, starting next month.
