We’re still collectively reeling from the excellent time we had at Underground Arts last Thursday night for the WXPN-curated Red Bull Sound Select party. It was a front-to-back great time – DJ Matthew Law rocking the house with everything from AlunaGeorge to Orna and Kendrick; Kate Faust playing a charismatic opening set with Lorde-level intensity and a healthy helping of new songs; Son Little smoking out the room with sensual, expressive blues / electro / soul / rock vibes; the very fun Dave Silver of RECPhilly working the crowd as Master of Ceremonies; and of course an explosive, hour-and-45-minute headlining set from Bilal that stretched the boundaries of his music into near-progressive zones, channeling everybody from Prince to Yes (his band opened the set with the intro to “Heart of the Sunrise”). Check out photos from the show below, and get more details on next month’s Red Bull Sound Select show – curated by Veteran Freshman and featuring GoGo Morrow, Joie Kathos and Rosemary Fiki – here
