New guest verse, new single, new road trip from Philly rapper Tunji Ige

Late last year, Philly’s Tunji Ige released The Love Project, an entertaining and engaging cross section between hard-hitting rap and infectious EDM / club jams. The mixtape made a splash on the internet, as well as in front of real live humans during a short and sweet set at RECPhilly’s SXSW Showcase.

This fall finds Tunji popping up in a few different places as he continues to support The Love Project. First, he spits a few bars on a new single from Christine and the Queens, the ethereal pop project of French musician Héloïse Letissier. The song “No Harm Is Done” follows a minimal, melodic build-up reminiscent of London Grammar and Grimes. About two thirds of the way, Tunji pops in – “I can follow but I wanna lead” – and carries us out to the final refrain in style.

Not even a week after that track showed up in my inbox, a new solo song from Tunji showed up on Complex Mag. “Dark Liquor” is not from a new mixtape, but rather from A3C Volume 5, a new compilation primer for the Atlanta hip-hop conference happening next month – and from his declaration up top that “This the hardest shit you’ve ever heard thus far,” you know he means business.

Speaking of A3C and Philly, our friends at RECPhilly will be down there next month to curate and host an all-Philadelphia showcase – not unlike their SXSW showcase – in support of their Support Philly Music campaign. The stage featuring Armani White, Milton, Tierra Whack and more. It happens on Saturday, October 10th, and we’ll have more details on it as the conference draws closer – though for Philly music heads, a road trip might just be in order here.
