Tonight’s Concert Picks: Port Arthur at Bourbon and Branch, Telekinesis at Johnny Brenda’s, Kylesa at Underground Arts and more

Folk and jazz have rarely been as seamlessly melded together as in the work of Port Arthur. The Philadelphia seven-piece band slide in and out of styles using a variety of instruments to bring their unique folk sound to the masses. Seattle’s Michael Benjamin Lerner, better known as Telekinesis, has for year existed at the crossroad between indie rock and full-fledged power pop.  Throughout the band’s life they have gotten help from such indie rock powers as Death Cab For Cutie’s Chris Walla and Spoon drummer Jim Eno and have matured their sound which each new album. Telekinesis released their fourth studio album, As Infinitum is September and are playing tonight at Johnny Brenda’s starting at 9 p.m. You can click here for more information on tonight’s show.

Sludge-metal band Kylesa will take over the stage tonight at Underground Arts, bringing their psychedelic-inspired heavy metal. Earlier this month the band released their seventh full-length studio album titled, Exhausting Fire. Savannah, Goergia’s Kylesa  will playing tonight with fellow rockers Inter Arma and Indian Handcuffs beginning at 7:30 p.m. Go to the XPN Concert Calendar for more details on tonight’s show.
