Petal, the project of Scranton native Kiley Lotz, is releasing its debut full-length this week via Run For Cover. The album, Shame, is streaming now over at SPIN. Since its emergance in 2012, Petal has seen a rotating band line-up backing Lotz, and Shame sees Tigers Jaw members Brianna Collins and Ben Walsh joining Lotz in the recording process.

Shame‘s twelve dynamic tracks flow from soft, delicate pieces like “Feel,” to crunchy, full-band songs like “Sooner.” The stand-out track for me is “The Fire,” with Lotz’s voice harmonized over Collins’, both of which powerfully push the song onward, demanding “Why won’t you love me?” Lotz’s voice is simultaneously pretty and powerful, commanding each track, requiring your attention to the whimsical lyrics and melodies that she has created. Shame is a perfect album for a long, contemplative fall afternoon for this reason; the contrast within Lotz’s vocal and the juxtaposition of soft and stormy tracks are reminiscent of a sunny yet brisk fall day.

You can pre-order Shamehere, and keep an eye out for the Key Studio Session she did with us. Follow Petal for upcoming show and tour announcements.
