DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince’s 1988 debut album, He’s the DJ, I’m the Rapper

Will Smith is a Philly native and undeniably one of the most likable Hollywood stars, and he’s going back to his roots for a tour with producer, friend and longtime collaborator Jazzy Jeff.

Smith shared the news on Ellen DeGeneres show this Thursday, ending speculation that has been circulating since Smith began to hint at a return to music. About a month ago Smith was featured on a club banger from tropical electronic group Bomba Estero, titled “Fiesta” — which you can hear below. Since that time Jazzy Jeff has said that he thinks the two will be back in the studio, ready to record new music soon enough.

Smith told DeGeneres that one of the main reasons he wants to do a tour is because he never really got to do one for real, due to conflict with the beginning of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. In preparation of the tour, which will no doubt make at least one stop here in the city of brotherly love, you can listen to the very ‘90s “Parents Just Don’t Understand” from Jazzy and Will.
