Said the Starling is a hip-hop collaboration between Seattle’s Ryan Vinson (Sketch Lightly) and Philly’s Adam Prince (Hectic Zeniths), and it as been a project a  long time coming. The two first met back in 2003 while attending Drexel University and have both developed their own unique musical method since. Now they reconvene over ten years later for the release of The Other Imperfect, a five-song EP chalk full of inventiveness and skill.

The beats throughout the EP are understated, with a jazzy twinge that is more appropriate for calm introspection than as any party atmosphere. The vocals, delivered by Vinson, are also hushed and thoughtful, creating an aura in which even extended metaphors about Now and Later candies come off as beautifully poetic.
