Watch Springsteen talk The River on Fallon, watch The Roots cover “Hungry Heart” a la The Ramones

The extensively expanded new version of his 1980 classic The River is out now, and Bruce Springsteen is ramping up for a mega anniversary tour in support of it – which comes through Philadelphia on February 12th at the Wells Fargo Center.

That show is already “officially” sold out, though there’s always StubHub…not to mention The Boss’ run of television performances and interviews through which you can live vicariously. This weekend, he hits the SNL stage as the musical guest (with Tina Fey hosting, no less, so the Delaware Valley should officially be locked in) but last night he was more in conversation mode as he sat down with Jimmy Fallon to unpack the new box set The Ties that Bind: The River Collection.

As if Springsteen didn’t already have enough punk cred, he shared a story with Fallon about writing the classic “Hungry Heart” for The Ramones. This prompted an all-too-brief, revved up Ramonesy rendition of the hit by Fallon’s house band The Roots, which you can watch below.
