LA-bred duo Girlpool and Havertown’s Alex G. have both had years to remember in Philadelphia, releasing major LPs and heading out on national tours – so their live collaboration is definitely something that caught our attention.

Of the two, Alex G. is very much the experimenter, while Girlpool’s style is much more reserved and vulnerable. This made their collaboration, in which they performed Alex G.’s single “Brite Boy” live at SPIN’s Year in Music even in Los Angeles, all the more intriguing.

One of the characteristics of Giannascoli’s catalog is the use of modulation and double-tracking to give his songs the feel of multiple vocalists. The most effective use of this technique on 2015’s Beach Music came on the delicate and relatively stipped-down “Brite Boy,” making it a perfect song for Trividad and Tucker to jump on. It is immediately evident that they not only fit perfectly into the “Brite Boy” aesthetic but also clearly love the song itself, making for an enjoyable performance for all.

You can watch the video for “Brite Boy” below and can catch Alex G. in Philly for a show at Union Transfer on April 14. Tickets and more information on the show can be found here.
