Sean Huber steps out from behind the drumkit and to the microphone in Steady Hands, the folk-punk outfit he’s been fronting when percussive duties with Modern Baseball don’t have him traveling around the world. This year, Steady Hands released the very lively and revved up Tropical Depression EP – a feisty set that reminds me a lot of fellow Philadelphians Mischief Brew in the way it sonically holds The Germs and Op Ivy in equal esteem as The Pogues and Billy Bragg. Tonight, the band headlines Boot and Saddle for the final night of Weathervane Music’s December residency, and rumor has it one lucky ticket holder will win an autographed vinyl copy of MoBo’s You’re Gonna Miss It All LP. More information on the show can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar. Listen to the title track to Tropical Depressionbelow.
Philly rockers RFA close out their year on two high notes. First, they came in at number 9 on Daytrotter’s Top 100 Songs of 2015 list (right under Built to Spill covering “Cowgirl In The Sand” by Neil Young, no less) for a performance of their jangley rocker “What’s Your Name?” Second, they headline The Fire tonight, and the show is sure to be a blast. Tickets and more information can be found here; watch a video of the band playing “What’s Your Name” during their Key Studio Session below.
