In the past year and a half, Philly power trio Shark Tape released the Marathon LP, played a packed Free at Noon house and opened for Old 97s at Union Transfer. This year, they’re working on a follow-up LP, and this Friday will play alongside power pop heroes The Figgs at Boot and Saddle.

Leading up to the gig, bassist / vocalist Stephen Lorek appeared on the latest episode of the 25 O’Clock Podcast for an extensive conversation with host Dan Drago about a whole gamut of topics surrounding Shark Tape, its background and trajectory, as well as the struggles and rewards of independent band-dom in general. (The segment on perceptions of success is something any band going at it alone should pay attention to; suffice it to say, Lorek is humble and keeps his expectations grounded, which is an important thing in the long run.)
