World Cafe alums Bad Bad Hats play Johnny Brenda’s tonight. The indie rockers showed host David Dye around their hometown of Minneapolis, MN last year for a Sense of Place feature and recorded a session in support of their debut LP Psychic Reader. Check out a video of “Midway” recorded live for World Cafe below, revisit their full feature here and pick up tickets for tonight’s 21+ show with Hey Marseilles here.
Hemming performs tonight at The Fire, joined by a full band that includes former Omar bandmate Nick Fanelli. The local singer-songwriter released her debut solo LP under the new moniker last year and usually plays on her own, but this full band thing might be more than just a one-off experiment; members of Cayetana and Three Man Cannon joined Martello for a live-streamed Shaking Through Session over the weekend as well. Stay tuned for more from that session and listen to “Some of My Friends” below. Tickets and information for the 21+ show can be found here.
Vampire Weekend’s Chris Baio has struck out on his own, bringing his BAIO project to Coda tonight. The solo material is quirky and colorful, an electronic production counterpart to Baio’s past work. Some tracks on last year’s The Names have David Byrne influences (like “Sister of Pearl” below”) and others are club-ready, glitchy chillwave. Check out “Sister of Pearl” below and pick up tickets for the show here.
