Since the 1992 release of her debut Tongues and Tails and the big hit opening track “Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover,” songwriter Sophie B. Hawkins has been actively turning out raw, emotionally charged music. Finely tuned confessionals, scenes of love and life set to a melody, brokenhearted ballads.

A listen through any of her fine releases, like 2012’s The Crossing is some kind of good exfoliating for the soul – leaves you feeling tender, but better for it. It’s been a few years since her last proper album, but when Hawkins visited WXPN, she brought a handful of new songs that I hope means an upcoming collection is just around the corner.
