Alex G has shared another video for a track off of last year’s Beach Music LP, this time choosing the quiet and quick “Mud.” It was directed by Colin Acchione (the brother of Alex G band guitarist Sam) and follows Alex and Emily Yacina (who provides backing vocals on “Mud”) as they explore the woods in the rain.

There’s a childlike quality to the song that is amplified by the video. You see Alex and Emily eating leaves, touching little garden snakes and laughing with each other – the kinds of things that happen when kids are sent outside to play. Even the tauntingly repeated lyrics echo back to playground teasing, though there is a darkness to lines like “I know who your master is / I know when he calls it quits / you’ll be in a Chinese restaurant / over rice with the mud still drippin out” that cast a pall over the innocent images of the video.

XPN welcomes Alex G to Union Transfer on April 14th; tickets and information can be found here. Watch “Mud” below.
