Swedish musician Jose Gonzalez and New York classical music ensemble yMusic headline Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center tonight. Gonzalez, best known for his work with Junip and Zero 7, released a solo LP called Vestiges and Claws last year. And this is not the first time that yMusic is collaborating with a singer-songwriter; they joined forces with Ben Folds just last year. Check out Gonzalez and yMusic performing the former’s “With the Ink of a Ghost” below and pick up tickets for the all-ages concert here.
Legendary folk musician Joan Baez performs in Wilmington at the Grand Opera House tonight. It’s hard to believe, but Baez is on the verge of celebrating the 60th anniversary of her 1959 Newport Folk Fest debut; a duet with folk singer Bob Gibson led to a record deal, and a string of successful records quickly followed to jumpstart an impactful and important career. Watch Baez perform “Diamonds and Rust” live in 1975 and pick up tickets for the concert here.
Local outfit The Extraordinaires hit the stage for the first time in several months at Ortlieb’s tonight. Though they released a number of records in the mid 00s, the alt / folk band slowed down a bit in recent years so it’s a treat anytime we get the chance to see them live. Watch the video for “Blue Moon” from 2014’s Dress for Nasty Weather below and pick up tickets to the 21+ show here.
