Heading up to an appearance at this weekend’s Trenton Avenue Arts Festival, Philly singer-songwriter Joey Sweeney (of Philebrity fame) recently dropped a new acoustic demo on his Soundcloud. The song, “It Ain’t Important Now,” is a mix of hearty strumming and rootsy leads, with Sweeney’s vivid lyrics – “Nobody talks about addiction when everybody’s addicted to just getting by” – in the forefront.

On the one, Sweeney sounds as Tweedy than ever with this track – I remember my first impression of his 2003 Trouble With Sweeney LP I Know You Destroy was “Wow! Dude must really like Wilco.” – but aligning him to the most obvious parallel is a bit of a disservice, since close listening will reveal traces of crate-digging pub rock, folk and (considering that this will eventually be embellished upon in full band splendor) power pop.

Give it a listen below, and get more information on the Trenton Avenue Arts Fest here. Other performers include, Heart Harbor, Shark Tape and Thee Idea Men.
