Philly smooth-fi yachtrockers and summer popsters Work Drugs have released another single from their forthcoming LP. It’s the fourth song to come from the band this year, keeping them busy since the release of Louisa last August. But unlike the previous single “Summer ’92 (Forever Forever),” this latest track deviates from the summery vibe that Work Drugs so often emits.

Such a change in sound might stem from the songs origins — it was written during a trip to Miami this past winter. Instead of fast pop beats, “Roll” is dialed down and stuffed with a smooth saxophone. It’s winter vacation roots make sense when the lyrics of this getaway tune are analyzed: “one chance left for a getaway, it will be alright, so let’s roll.” For a band that likes to associates itself with yachts, this latest work certainly falls under a relaxing mood.

Work Drugs will play Boot & Saddle on June 11th with support from fellow locals Church Girls. Head to the XPN Concert Calendar for tickets and more information, and scroll down to check out the rest of their tour dates this summer. Listen to “Roll” below.
