On June 17th, Alabaman-turned-Philadelphian Katie Crutchfield of Waxahatchee will open up the time capsule and reissue the first songs she ever wrote for the project as a limited-edition cassette aptly titled Early Recordings. Also available digitally, the reissue’s artist proceeds will benefit DIY PHL’s First Time’s The Charm, an event that promotes diversity and inclusion of all kinds within the music community.

Says Crutchfield of the five-song release:

They came out five years ago as a super limited split cassette that was mostly for friends and family, and truth be told, I had largely forgotten about them until this spring while on a solo tour of the West Coast. At first I was tentative about re-listening to these recordings, but the nostalgia I felt when re-hearing them was warm, and I thought it might be nice to make them available again.

You can pick up the cassette online or on Waxahatchee’s summer tour, which starts this Friday, June 3rd with Connor Barwin’s Third Annual Make The World Better Benefit Concert. Joining the bill Friday night will be Hop Along and a special guest yet to be announced. Head here for tickets and more information for the MTWB show at Union Transfer, and be sure to check out the XPN Concert Calendar for Waxahatchee’s final tour stop at Lancaster’s Chameleon Club on June 22nd.

Much to our liking, digging up five old songs did not satisfy Crutchfield. So, she and her sister Allison are reviving their old band P.S. Eliot, which began in 2007 but broke up in 2011. And just like in the case of Waxahatchee, this special release is so fittingly titled as 2007-2011. Out September 2nd via Don Giovanni Records, the 50-song 2xCD release will be a remastered compilation of everything the band recorded: both studio albums Introverted Romance In Our Troubled Minds (2009) and Sadie (2011), the Living In Squalor EP (2010), their original Bike Wreck demo, and more home recordings.

This September, the core band featured on P.S. Eliot’s debut LP will reunite for a tour. This group includes the Crutchfield sisters, with Katie on guitar and vocals and Allison on drums, bassist Katherine Simonetti, and guitarist Will Granger. Listen to “We’d Never Agree” below, and see them perform on September 19th at PhilaMOCA.
