1963 – The Rolling Stones make their British TV debut on Thank Your Lucky Stars the same day they release their first single, “Come On.” Recorded the previous month, the track was originally written and released by Chuck Berry in 1961. The B-side was also a cover; of Willie Dixon’s “I Want to Be Loved.”

1964 – During their first ever US tour, The Rolling Stones are booed off stage at a gig in San Antonio, TX. Some performing monkeys who had been the opening act are brought back on stage for another performance.

1969 – Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell both appear on the first episode of ABC-TV’s Johnny Cash Show from the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Dylan performs “I Threw It All Away,” “Living The Blues,” and did a duet with Johnny Cash on “Girl From The North Country.”

1969 – Blind Faith perform their first and only live gig at a free concert in London’s Hyde Park.

1975 – Elton John’s ninth studio album Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy becomes the first album ever to enter the US chart at #1 (where it stays for seven weeks). Captain Fantastic is a concept album that gives an autobiographical glimpse at the struggles John (Captain Fantastic) and Taupin (the Brown Dirt Cowboy) had in the early years of their musical careers in London.

1978 – Prince’s first single “Soft and Wet” is released.

1987 – David Bowie plays a concert in West Berlin in front of the Reichstag with the speakers pointing towards the nearby Berlin Wall where thousands of young East Berliners stand and listen.

1993 – Ground is broken for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland

1993 – Prince changes his name to the unpronounceable “love symbol.”

2000 – The week-long “Prince: A Celebration” party begins at Paisley Park Studios in honor of The Artist reclaiming his name “Prince” after a 7-year battle with Warner Brothers.

2008 – Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones make a surprise appearance to jam with Foo Fighters during their Wembley Stadium gig in London. The one-night-only supergroup plays “Rock And Roll” and “Ramble On.”
