If you’ve been waiting patiently for the first LP from Philly rock/electronic outfit Bondage & Discipline, your wait is almost up — well, sort of. The band announced Wednesday that they’ll be releasing their first album Love Me Like I’m Dead this summer, albeit through a series of smaller sets of songs. The first part of the series, a three-song collection entitled NO ONE, will come out July 12th. The rest of Love Me Like I’m Dead will be spread out over the course of the next four months.

The idea behind this release pattern is to highlight the band’s assertion that every song produced for this album is good enough to exist separately from any other music — the band believes there isn’t a single song that uses the others as a crutch or a cover up for its individual weakness. You, of course, can decide for yourselves if that’s truly the case.

The new material was born from a revival of frontman Hugh Morretta’s former self. He had turned 30 while he worked in a factory and his old band, The National Rifle, crumbled. This period in his life led him to rediscover who he was before he spent his twenties working and going to school. Morretta realized the kid who fell in love with music as a teenager was the best version of himself to express his creative passions.

With the help of engineer and guitarist Todd Mecaughey, Morretta was able to utilize empty studio space and get to work on a new project. Thus, Love Me Like I’m Dead was born, giving life to an album that according to the band’s press release “looks back to the originators of dark synth rock rebuilding the sound with neon psychedelic production and pop execution.”

It’s probably safe to assume that you’ll hear some of these new tracks at Bondage & Discipline’s upcoming shows. The band’s next local gig is Friday, July 7th at Ortlieb’s, when they’ll headline with support from The Stammer, Decorum, and Blood Sound. The band will return to Ortlieb’s again on Saturday, August 13th, this time to join The Sixties in support of The Danger O’s.
