Memphis native Julien Baker will headline Underground Arts on Tuesday September 13th in support of her critically acclaimed 2015 debut Sprained Ankle. Philly’s Grayling (who we’re fans of here at The Key) will perform as the opening act. The show will mark Baker’s return to Philly after playing Boot & Saddle back in January.
Released in October of last year, Sprained Ankle has quickly put Baker into the spotlight. Its sad songwriting pairs beautifully with Baker’s raw but graceful vocals, and the combination will probably make you cry. It’s nearly impossible to single out one of the album’s nine tracks as an outlier, as not one falls short as magnificent. The world agrees with such praise as well — last week Baker opened up for Death Cab For Cutie in Milwaukee, and she’s booked for several festival dates outside of her September tour.
