Hiss Golden Messenger has announced a Fall into early Winter tour with a stop at at Union Transfer on Sunday November 13th. Last week the band announced that their new album, Heart Like A Levee, will be released on October 7th. It comes two years after their last release, the critically acclaimed Lateness of Dancers.

Formed in 2007 by M.C. Taylor and Scott Hirsch, Hiss Golden Messenger has built its following on a rich Americana influenced sound that blends acoustic a variety of roots music including folk, country and blues. Like Little Feat and Ry Cooder, two artists who drew on the same mix of American music influences, and American Beauty-era Grateful Dead, HGM source traditional influences yet create something completely unique.

Go to the XPN Concert Calendar here for details and more information about the show.

Below, listen to “Biloxi,” a solid, driving blast of Americana music.

When World Cafe was in Durham, North Carolina, for its recent Sense of Place trip, it got an early listen to Hiss Golden Messenger’s new songs – including the lovely “Happy Day (Sister Oh Sister),” performed with Tift Merrit.
