We are beyond stoked for Episodic, the latest LP from Philly / Brooklyn rockers Field Mouse. Over the past three years, the band has expanded from a dream-poppy duo to an anthemic indie rock five-piece with a punchy drive and hooks for miles. Easy points of comparison range from 90s faves like The Lemonheads and Belly to aughties luminaries Rilo Kiley and Death Cab. But let’s not over-simplify here: this band has a voice of its own, centered around frontwoman / songwriter Rachel Browne.

The new record, recorded with Joe Reinhart of Hop Along at Headroom Studios, comes out on Topshelf Records on August 5th; we’ve already gotten a preview with “The Mirror” and “Out of Context,” and now the band has rolled out a third teaser from the album called “The Order of Things.” It’s a jaunty pop tune about feeling out of place, and the general ennui that comes with it. Says the folks at The Le Sigh, which premiered the song yesterday:

Don’t let the dreaminess fool you: behind the dancing-around-your-room-on-a-sunny-day vibe, the singer is trying to reach someone. It’s an upbeat, introspective track about feeling totally meh. Throughout the song, they’re questioning how they fit into the world, or perhaps, more narrowly, how they fit into a certain person’s life. “I’m tired and I want to take up space,” Field Mouse sighs, and it’s a lyric for anyone who just wants to be noticed, and appreciated, without having to try. The next line, “I’m lonely and I want to see your face,” is backed by heavenly oooohs and ahhhhs. Would it kill the object of our affection to make it easy for us, even once?

Give a listen to “The Order of Things” here, and grab a preorder of Episodichere. Field Mouse kicks off it tour in Philadelphia, playing Thursday, August 4th at Boot and Saddle. Get tickets and more information on the show at the XPN Concert calendar, and scope their tour dates below.
