XPN MusicNotes: Mercury Prize nominees announced, Ms. Lauryn Hill to start tour at Philadelphia’s Mann Center

Several XPN artists have been nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize including the late, David Bowie.

David Bowie is one of 12 artists nominated for the Mercury Prize which is awarded for the best album of the year by a British or Irish artist. Bowie gets the nod for “Blackstar.”

The other nominees are:

Anohni – ‘Hopelessness’
Bat For Lashes – ‘The Bride’
Jamie Woon – ‘Making Time’
Kano – ‘Made in the Manor’
Laura Mvula – ‘The Dreaming Room’
Michael Kiwanuka – ‘Love & Hate’
Radiohead – ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’
Savages – ‘Adore Life’
Skepta – ‘Konnichiwa’
The 1975 – ‘I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it’
The Comet Is Coming – ‘Channel the Spirits’

The award will be handed out on September 15th. Last year’s Mercury Prize went to Benjamin Clementine for his album “At Least For Now.”

Lauryn Hill will be hitting the road later this month on a conceptual tour: The Ms. Lauryn Hill Carvan: A Diaspora Calling! The tour will pull elements from her first Diaspora Calling! music festival held in Brooklyn back in April. Each show will include guest performances by artists “from throughout the African diaspora,” according to a press release. Lauryn Hill’s tour begins on August 27th at the Mann Center in Philadelphia
