When he left Philly for the West Coast, local MC Gilbere Forte linked up with a crew of new friends who shared his eclectic musical interests and HUNTR was born. The band – which also includes drummer Nick Audy, DJ Helly, guitarist Boris Likharev and production guru Raak – first caught our ear this winter with “Find Myself.” It’s a genre bending modern rock song that draws on elements of electronic music, heavy rock and hip-hop. The band continued this summer with the song “Veins,” which screams and soars like Imagine Dragons and Nine Inch Nails – it’s huge, and the music video that just dropped this week is equally intense.

With the band playing dressed all in black in a white room, it recalls the raging clip for NIN’s “March of the Pigs,” except less lo-fi…and more bloody. The hook of the song goes “You don’t know the type of blood that runs through my veins,” and the message seems to be looking past superficiality to discover each person’s inner complexity – and the frustrations when that doesn’t happen. There are some crazy backwards-bleeding visual effects, and Forte gets roughed up a bit by the end of the song’s four minutes, but it’s got us thrilled to hear more.
