Philly R&B / pop four-piece Good Girl is awesome – we’ve known that for quite a while. But they’ve been having a hell of a 2016, from their massively well-received appearance on America’s Got Talent (they didn’t make the finals but still slayed all the same) to a killer collaboration with rising local MC Joie Kathos (appropriately titled “Slay”).

They’ve also been dropping a sick string of standalone singles this summer, from the trap banger “Have Mercy” to the playful club jam “My Shit” and the rhythmic house rager “All Mine” (a personal favorite over here). The crew has been out in LA recording these jams and more in preparation for a debut record, and wraps its summer by returning to Philly to kick off labor day weekend by headlining the TLA on Friday, September 1st.

The band also caught up with SPIN Magazine for an extensive interview feature, where they talked about their roots (in Maryland and NY before teaming up in Philly), their love of 90s R&B squads like En Vogue and TLA, and their aspiration to revive the genre. From SPIN:

A decade later, the R&B girl groups seem to have all but vanished. Their absence has not gone unnoticed, but no matter how good their harmonies or dance moves, acts of recent years, like Good Girl, rarely seem to make it up past local fame. (Though all-female vocal groups like Fifth Harmony and Little Mix shine as exceptions, their sounds tend to lean more heavily on pop than R&B.)

None of that has stopped Good Girl from working their asses off to claw their way back into mainstream.
