Onetime local singer-songwriter Carsie Blanton has been hiding out in New Orleans for the past five years, but she made a return to the Philly area this week on a run of shows in support of her latest LP, So Ferocious. The new record, her sixth, made up the bulk of today’s setlist, with the groovy “Hot Night” giving way to the playful “So Ferocious” and Blanton’s quirky yet controlled voice sitting in the center amid dulcet tones.

Blanton dug back to 2011’s Idiot Heart for the mortality-minded pickup of “Smoke Alarm” and also included “Money in the Bank,” a song from her 2009 outing Buoy. She just headlined a pair of nights in the region, at Boot and Saddle in South Philly and Steel City in Phoenixville, and today’s performance not only wrapped up the run, it was a nice way to get the unofficial last weekend of summer under way.

Listen to the performance in its entirety below, and check out a gallery of photos from the show.
