Regional rockers Hodera celebrated the one year anniversary of their 2015 LP United By Birdcalls with a show in New Brunswick, NJ in July. The album’s songs, written by singer/songwriter Matthew Smith, are poetic and gut-wrenching, reaching a deeper place than a lot of other modern rock compositions out there. A standout is opener “Breathe Easy,” which got a video treatment at the anniversary show.

Dealing with the effects of subtle bullying and the struggle to feel at peace, “Breathe Easy” is clearly an anthem for Hodera fans. The video cuts between close ups of the band and shots of a crowd wildly singing along – you get a clear sense of the intimate nature of both the setting and the relationship between lyrics and listener.

Hodera are working on the follow-up to United By Birdcalls, so stay tuned for new music. In the meantime, they play Bourbon & Branch with Kississippi and Cloakz on September 21st; tickets and information can be found here.
