Asheville, North Carolina four-piece River Whyless puts a contemporary spin on Appalachian bluegrass tradition, blending indie songwriter sensibilities with fiddle, footstomps and acoustic picking. The band just released its latest LP We All the Light, and delivered a knockout set at Philadelphia Folk Festival. It plays Union Transfer tonight, opening for Blind Pilot. Tickets and more information on the show can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar. River Whyless caught up with World Cafe twice this year; watch a video from their Sense of Place: Asheville session below, and listen to their more recent performance and interview with David Dye, via NPR Music.
