A highlight from this month’s Philly Jazz Guide, trumpeter Christian Scott brings his modern take on jazz compositions to South tonight. The New Orleans native released his Stretch Music LP last year, an album that was accompanied by an app that provides an interactive aspect to the listening experience for fans. Minneapolis artist Caroline Smith headlines Johnny Brenda’s tonight. The R&B / pop artist found her stride after shifting from her indie folk roots in 2013, releasing Half About Being a Woman to widespread acclaim. There’s no sign of slowing down from Bob Weir, the legendary co-founder of the Grateful Dead. After a summer of touring with Dead & Co., Weir brings his new solo effort Blue Mountain to the Tower Theater tonight. Album single “Only a River” was XPN’s Gotta Hear Song of the Week back in August – listen to it below and pick up tickets for the show here.
