Psychedelic indie six-piece Cuddle Magic has been sending cerebral pop vibes from its dual home-bases of Brooklyn and West Philly for the better part of the past decade.

The band’s fifth album, Ashes / Axis, is due out on Northern Spy Records early next year, and the band recently began teasing songs from it. First there was the song “Trojan Horse,” which appeared on Bob Boilen and Robin Hilton’s New Music Mix on NPR Music last week. With a Philly headlining date on the horizon, today we’re excited to bring you another song from the record.

The band’s Benjamin Lazar Davis co-wrote “Slow Rider” with Bridget Kearney, upright bassist of Lake Street Dive. The song was written in Ghana, and is based it on music of the northwestern region of Africa. It features pulsing, poppy synthesizers and dream-like vocals by Cuddle Magic’s Kristin Slipp — listen to it below, and get more information on the band’s October 27th show at Johnny Brenda’s via the XPN Concert Calendar.
