Purling Hiss | still from video

Earlier this month, Philly fuzz rockers Purling Hiss released High Bias, a high-energy distillation of everything that already made them great. Now, they’ve shared a visual for the sunny, laid back “Follow You Around”. With its “bop, bop, bop” hook, it’s easily the poppiest moment on the record.

Throughout the lo-fi clip, footage of singer/guitar Mike Polizze walking around West Philly and Fishtown is intercut with the band playing in the corner of a dimly lit room. Polizze takes the subway, drives his car, and wanders a graveyard, all while the band passes around a scotch bottle mid-song. As the blood alcohol content of the video creeps above 0.08, the camera work and the band’s performance become intentionally silly. The whole thing plays like a bunch of friends goofing around with a camera after a few drinks. That may not sound like a particularly strong concept, but Purling Hiss are more than charming enough to pull it off.

High Bias is out now via Drag City. This Sunday, Purling Hiss will celebrate its release with a headlining set at Johnny Brenda’s. Head over to the Concert Calendar for tickets and more information.
