Tonight’s Concert Picks: The Superweaks at Kung Fu Necktie, Purling Hiss at Johnny Brenda’s and The B-52s at The Fillmore

Join The Superweaks tonight at Kung Fu Necktie for their album release show.  The LP, Better Heavens, is a dedication to their late bassist Corey Bernard and is slated to drop on November 4th via Lame-O Records. Fellow Philly-based bands Thin Lips, Sun Organ and Three Man Cannon will be joining them. For more information on this all ages show check out the WXPN Concert Calendar. As a part of their High Bias tour, the garage-rockers of Purling Hiss are making a stop at Johnny Brenda’s. The trio released their latest LP earlier this month, and it’s been received with rave reviews. Their style of loud rock, heavily distorted guitars and Mike Polizze’s garage-fi vocals were arranged into a concise album that is representative of a band who has cultivated their style over a long period of time. Joining them will be the post-punk-rockers of Dark Blue and fuzz-rock group Spacin’. Get a little spooky tonight at The Fillmore with The B-52s Halloween Scream Show. This New-Wave band that came out of the thriving scene in Athens Georgia in the ’70s. Really get into the Halloween spirit by showing up early for a “Rock of the ’80s” preparty with XPN’s DJ Robert Drake and a Halloween Costume Contest.
