Philly punk noisemakers Taiwan Housing Project are back with their first release under the revered indie imprint Kill Rock Stars. It’s called Three Song Record, and if you took a wild guess that it only has three songs on it, you would be right. If you also guessed that it would be brash, idiosyncratic, and noisy as hell, you’d be right about that too.

Originally released in 2015 on M’Lady’s records, the EP opens with the blistering “Maintenance of an Application,” which rides a mid-tempo punk groove as a soupy mess of searing guitar obscures a steady, distorted bass line. It’s got the momentum of a freight train, and that momentum continues on “White Frosted”, which features an equally catchy, shouted hook. “Behind the Green Curtain” on the other hand, comes completely out of left field. With its wobbling drums, teetering piano, and a Syd Barrett-esque vocal line courtesy of Kilynn Lunsford, it’s an exciting curve ball that has just as much of a punch as the visceral barrage that precedes it.

If you want to catch Taiwan Housing Project live, tonight’s your chance, as they’re playing Space 1026 with Hit Bargain, Ursula, and DJ Freddy Nightliker. You can grab tickets at the doors when they open at 7 p.m., but you have to promise to bring earplugs. Hearing loss is very not punk rock. Stream the new Three Song Record below.
