The big new music story over the last few days is the return of A Tribe Called Quest and you can rest assured that we’ll have a listen to their new album tonight on our show. We’ll also hear from the new Sting full-length and find out what you think.  Plus, our “Gotta Hear Song of the Week” is a truly just that – a must hear! Chuck Prophet reflects on musicians that we’ve lost in 2016 and with the passing of both Leonard Cohen and Leon Russell the last few days the song has only become more timely.  We’ve got all the above, plus here are a few more items we’ve got lined up tonight on our New Music Show starting at 8pm …

“Timmy’s Prayer” by SAMPHA

The British singer-songwriter and producer Sampha has been a collaborative musical force over the last several years all the while preparing for his own moment in the spotlight. That appears to be happening as we await his full-length debut called Process (February 2017).  Sampha offers a mix of electronica and soul that is both warm and inviting but also pushes sonic boundaries to exciting limits.  For a listen of what’s to come, enjoy “Timmy’s Prayer” from the upcoming release.

“Cocoon” by MILKY CHANCE

Rewind just a few years ago when we were introduced to the German duo Milky Chance. They had somewhat of an unique hit on their hands with the playful “Stolen Dance”.  Following up such an infectious introduction to the world is always a tall task.  And as we  digest “Cocoon”, their first new song in three years, that band does not to detour too far from their hit-making blueprint.  The song is a comfortable step forward for a band that is rather distinct in their persona.

First Impression Artist: FRANCES LUKE ACCORD

A few weeks ago our good friends Darlingside came through Philadelphia on tour. Opening for Darlingside was the band FRANCES LUKE ACCORD (who we got to hear at our Free at Noon).  The duo of Nicholas Gunty and Brian Powers are originally from South Bend, Indiana and now based in Chicago.  Similar to their touring mates, Frances Luke Accord is inspired by a variety of music but find their strength as a contemporary folk band.  The harmonies are gorgeous and the songs well-crafted on the album Fluke.  We’ll hear a couple of songs from it tonight as our First Impression!
