Boot and Saddle gets one hell of show as fusion jazz hounds Darla take the stage, celebrating the release of their newest record Darla Rolls the Dice! with Nik Greely & the Operators, as well as Roz and the rice cakes. The octet keeps it upbeat by blending their smooth brass instrumentation with grooving back beats, staging a great night of good times and great tunes. More information can be found on the WXPN Concert Calender, and also check out Darla’s visit to The Key for a intimate Studio Session here (and listen to the audio below!)
Brooklyn indie rock four-piece katie ellen is the latest project of Anika Pyle, formerly of punk favorites Chumped, and tonight they open the show at the First Unitarian Church. Also on the lineup is California’s Hard Girls and headliner Jeff Rosenstock. After releasing vulnerable singles “TV Dreams” and “Wild Heart” earlier this year, Katie Ellen is set to kick off this packed gig with style. Listen to the pair of singles below; tickets/more information can be found, as always, on the WXPN Concert Calendar (hurry though, they’re moving fast!)
Space rock forefathers Hawkwind are taking their ground-breaking blend to Kung Fu Necktie in support of their newest effort The Machine Stops. Bringing prog-rockers Hedersleben and The Writhing Squares for company, Hawkwind set to launch into a gig that’s out of this world (too many space puns? Okay…). Tickets and more information about the planetary gig can be found on the WXPN Concert Calendar, and watch a vintage promo video of Hawkwind performing their classic “Levitation” below.
