Malvern bassist Michele Lynn is gearing up for the release of Vilomahed, a compilation album featuring songs adapted from her poetry. Lynn plays bass on every track, while the rest of the music is written and performed by each track’s featured artist. It’s out next month with all proceeds benefiting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, but you can stream five tracks from it now on Bandcamp.

Vilomahed was recorded in memory of Lynn’s son David, so it makes sense that the theme of loss is paramount here. “Sundays”, which features Ginger Coyle, is a bluesy, acoustic number about feeling crushed under the weight of someone’s memory, while “Suitcase” describes what it’s like to pick that weight up and carry it with you. The latter track, which features Dani Mari, is a shuffling country tune that benefits greatly from Mari’s emotive, lilting vocal performance. Finally, there’s the tender ballad “Memories” courtesy of Tin Bird Choir, which finds joy in the good times even after they’ve come to an end.

Michele Lynn will play Burlap and Bean in Newton Square on December 10th, the same night the album is released. For tickets and more information, head over to XPN’s Concert Calendar.
