After releasing a second full-length with Better Heavens last year, The Superweaks are moving forward with a collaborative EP featuring Modern Baseball and Thin Lips. The trio of local acts, who will soon be trekking across Europe and the UK together for about a month, each contributed a new single to the split (check out Thin Lips’ “Not Losing Sleep” here) and The Superweaks’ cut “No Sorrow” was unveiled this week via a new video directed by Adam Peditto.

We’re fairly deep into the part of winter that isn’t brightly lit and festive – it’s cold, it’s dreary, and it’s getting dark way too early. But Evan Bernard and his bandmates are giving us one last glance of the warmth and camaraderie of the holiday season with “No Sorrow,” a video set just before midnight on New Year’s Eve in a house filled with friends on a street covered in twinkling lights.

The one-shot clip follows Bernard as he moves from room to room, surrounded by partygoers doing typical party things like eating pizza, jamming in the backyard, and putting on records (Modern Baseball’s Holy Ghost or Thin Lips’ Riff Hard?). You get the sense he’s having a hard time connecting to the light-hearted fun going on around him though as he sings “I’m trying hard to let it out / I’m feeling like I let you down / frustrated I wish I could get away.” A quick look at someone watching CNN on a tablet puts the night into perspective as a year full of tragedy and upheaval is about to end, and this heaviness is made even more direct by the final frame of a “make America great again” hat burning in flames.

Watch “No Sorrow” below and catch The Superweaks at Boot & Saddle on January 19th before they hit the road; tickets and information can be found here. Thin Lips and The Obsessives also play.
