The Obsessives give us a taste of their newly announced, self-titled sophomore record with the anthemic power-pop of “Surfer Rosa”.

Stuck in a moral Water Temple of sorts, the duo of Nick Bairatchnyi and Jackson Mansfield navigate their way through a “straight-from-the-cereal-box” video game, learning their path through painstaking trial-and-error. The fantastically vibrant instrumentation puts on a front for the self-deprication, as the band sings of hitting themselves for keeping at the losing battle of life and love. As goofily as the pair may attack these situations of repetition and subsequent feelings of displacement, the underlying carefree attitude represents the real courage these boys have to be themselves and actually have fun with their lives, despite the constant battle with the UFOs in their lives.

Watch the video below, pre-order the band’s sophomore effort (out March 17th on Lame-O Records), and don’t miss the band contribute to Lame-O’s residence at Boot & Saddle tomorrow with Thin Lips and The Superweaks (tickets/more information can be found on the XPN Concert Calendar).
