WXPN’s Dan Reed is on a mission: to save Rock and Roll. This week on his weekday Top 5 at 5 feature on XPN, Dan will presents five new discoveries each day.  Check out Dan’s first serving of great new rock songs here, and here are five more rock songs to add to your collection.

Philly’s incredible power trio Purling Hiss is fronted by guitarist Mike Polizze, is more than worthy of your attention (and maybe some earplugs). In case you missed it, listen to their recent Free At Noon here during which they covered Husker Du. The band’s recent album, High Bias is overflowing with psychedelia, massive power chords, and driving rhythms.

New York’s Wyldlife love to rock so much, they called one of their albums, The Time Has Come to Rock & Roll, and boy do they ever. These guys have been channeling the rock and punk greats since they debuted in 2010. Think Ramones, Little Richard, Replacements, New York Dolls. Turn it all the way up! Listen to “Deadbeat” from their new album, Out On Your Block on – where else – Wicked Cool Records.

Fronted by 19 year-old Clementine Cleever, Cherry Glazerr is a trio leaving their rock and roll love marks on popular music with their new album, Apocalipstick. You can hear a clear line of rock that spiritually connects Patti Smith to Clem and her band, and then there’s the KCRW NPR news reporter that they based their band name on. Rock to this:

The Louisville, Kentucky four piece White Reaper look like the kind of kids my parents told me never to hang out with, but was glad I did. The rockers play it fast and furiously, and if garage and punk rock are in your vocabulary then then these reapers you should not fear.

Flasher is a trio from Washington, DC, a city that has an important place in the punk and post-punk history books. The band is fronted by singer-guitarist Taylor Mulitz, who plays bass for Priests, a highly regarded punk band. Listen to “Erase Myself” from their 2016 self-titled debut.
