Local Brazilian jazz outfit Ensemble Novo released their sophomore record Look To the Sky earlier this month, following up 2013’s Blue Night debut with a collection of songs that could soothe your mind or get your feet moving, depending on your mood.

Led by author / former Inquirer music critic Tom Moon on tenor sax, the six-piece instrumental group recorded Look To the Sky at percussionist Jim Hamilton’s Rittenhouse Soundworks in Germantown. While masterfully arranged and executed, there’s no pretension evident on the record’s six tracks. Instead it’s an inviting space of easygoing comfort, balmy and completely entrancing with rustling percussion and vibrantly subdued melodies.

Stream the record below and follow the band’s Facebook page for their recurring live gigs.
