Philadelphia rockers Loose Tooth have been teasing Big Day Day (the big day when Big Day drops) for quite some time now, but a lot of their new material has been kicking around since last summer. In July, they performed five new songs during their Key Studio Session, foreshadowing the heavy riffage of their sophomore record. We got treated to the studio version of one of those tunes last month, and now, we’re getting a second one. Stream “Roach Motel” now via CLRVYNT.

Alt rock and grunge thrive in a live setting, but with some bands, that energy doesn’t convey on record. Loose Tooth is not one of those bands. Even in the studio, their performance feels raw and in-the-moment, so while it may not be the same as being in the room with them, this is pretty damn close. It’s a testament to the musicianship on “Roach Motel” and to the arrangement itself, which filters through a dynamic range of guitar hooks before settling on a tense, sludgy chug in its final moments. If you want to experience a bug-infested rest stop firsthand but suffer from insectophobia, xenodochiophobia or both, this is the track for you.

Listen to “Roach Motel” over at CLRVYNT., and watch them play it live at WXPN for their Key Studio Session below. Big Day is out April 2nd via Father Daughter / Lame-O Records. Proceeds from their singles on Bandcamp will benefit Women’s Medical Fund.
