Last fall, Philadelphia’s Haunted Homes emerged from the fog with “The Rattlesnake King”, a springy desert rock gem with a ghostly bent. Now, they’re continuing that sound with two new horror-themed tracks, “CoastGhost2Coast” and “Spooksville, USA”. Stream both below (if you dare).

If you liked “The Rattlesnake King”, this new pair of songs is going to be right up your alley. At first, “CoastGhost2Coast” rides a pleasant, bouncy groove and chiming guitars as a solitary organ lurks behind the scenes. Then, it kicks into an almost jazzy, breakbeat-esque jam for the bridge, providing an exciting change-up before launching back into the countrified stomp of its first two minutes. “Spooksville, USA”, on the other hand, is an overall more upbeat, breezy number. As its title might suggest, there’s a strong Beach Boys influence, making it the most lighthearted thing we’ve heard from the Homes yet. It may maintain the group’s obsession with mortality, but with its bright major key and “ooh ooh” background vocals, it proves that even ghosts can have fun in the sun.

Haunted Homes will play Ortileb’s on Friday, February 24th. For tickets and more information, head over to XPN’s Concert Calendar.
