In a few weeks, Philly newcomers No Thank You will release their full length debut via Lame-O Records. They’ve already shared two of its songs, “Juicy J” and “The Unbearable Purposelessness Of Being”, and now, they’re back with a third. It’s called “Old News”, and it’s their most dynamic offering yet. Before I get into it, though, I know what you’re thinking:

“Great Scott. This sounds like one hot track. Pray tell, where can I stream it?”

Why, you can stream it below, Imaginary Victorian Gentleman. That’s always the way these things happen.

Like fellow PA rockers Balance and Composure did on their latest LP, No Thank You combines the angst and subject matter of pop punk with the expansive reverb of shoegaze. Essentialy, they’re taking the former genre’s immediacy and shooting it into space, and that’s especially evident on “Old News”. While the first two tracks we heard are explosive throughout, this time around, they save the fireworks for the end. Until then, it’s all glittering arpeggios and ambience as Kaytee Della Monica ruminates on a problematic relationship from her past. As the drums kick in at the halfway mark and Della Monica begins to intone “and I have to hate you”, we’re treated to the most emotionally arresting moment we’ve heard from them yet. “Old News” may only be a little over two minutes long, but it grabs you right from the start and doesn’t let go.

Jump Ship is out Friday, February 24th. They’ll kick off a tour with The Superweaks that same day at Everybody Hits. For tickets and more information, head over to XPN’s Concert Calendar.
