While in town during a completely sold-out debut tour of the U.S. a few weeks ago, Australian multi-instrumentalist and one-person band Tash Sultana sat down with newly minted World Cafe host Talia Schlanger to talk about the journey that seems to have skyrocketed the young Melbourne native to international acclaim.
That journey was actually long in the works, beginning at age 3 when her grandfather gave her her first guitar. Talking with Schlanger, Sultana also remembers her very first looping pedal, the heartbreak that fills her debut Notion EP, and the way music pulled her out off a dark nine months. Along with the conversation, the session features recordings of Sultana performing her breakthrough hit “Jungle” and the title track to Notion in front of a live, very sold-out crowd upstairs at World Cafe Live.
Following the recent tour and her World Cafe session, Tash Sultana announced a return trip to the U.S. in the fall that stops at Union Transfer on October 5th. Tickets and information for that show can be found on the XPN Concert Calendar. Listen to her World Cafe appearance below.
