Philly four-piece Pretty Words is pretty weird. This eclectic band recently released the single, “Hole,” ahead of their upcoming self-titled EP, and my, what a beautifully-strange psych garage funk trip it is.

Scattered amidst a prolonged opening of clattering hi-top cymbals, we hear various instruments and mumbled vocals peaking in and out of consciousness. Growing with each new funky beat and intensifying guitars, the song explodes into a groovy dance track that breezily parties on for the remainder of the almost five and a half minute song. Equal parts hazy and precise, I don’t know how or why the indie garage rock elements fuse so seamlessly with the psychedelic synth riffs, but I’m not going to question it because Pretty Words seems to have it under control.

Party it up this St. Patty’s day when Pretty Words releases the rest of what are sure to be refreshingly smart tunes off of their new self-titled EP. Until then, please proceed jamming to the single, “Hole,” on repeat forever.
