Meet singer, songwriter and producer Earl St. Clair. Originally from Cleveland, he was born Earl Johnson II, spent most of his childhood in Alabama, getting his start as a producer for rappers Rick Ross and Machine Gun Kelly, and collaborating with electronic music superstar David Guetta. On his own, St. Clair is steeped in gritty soul and R&B.
St. Clair’s debut EP, My Name Is Earl is a fantastic seven song collection of raw, emotionally intense soul, with elements of more modern R&B. Recently, he was featured on NPR’s All Things Considered. He told Audie Cornish that while he wasn’t planning on being a singer, he started singing in the studio while he was working as a producer.
Listen to All Things Considered’s Audie Cornish’s interview with St. Clair below, and listen to the bluesy “Ain’t Got It Like That.”
