Strand of Oaks | still from video

Philly’s Strand Of Oaks is off conquering the world this spring with its outstanding new LP Hard Love and a spaced-out live show, both of which brought them to the stage of Conan last night. It was an electrifying performance; frontman Tim Showalter appeared poised and confident, looking us directly in the eyes through the camera lens, as he and the band rocked out to one of the album’s best cuts, “Rest of It.” The rhythm section of longtime drummer Mike Sneeringer and new bassist Djim Reynolds were tight and loud, while new lead guitarist Jason Anderson dove in with fierce solos that got him a hi-five from host Conan O’Brien at the song’s conclusion.

Showalter also played another Hard Love song in a web-exclusive performance — the album’s lead single, “Radio Kids,” is stripped down from its rock and roll rager studio version into a contemplative electric ballad.

Oaks has a lot of engagements on its 2017 tour calendar — shows with Heather McEntire from Mount Moriah, shows with Jason Isbell, as well as a return to Belgium’s revered Pukkelpop festival and Australia’s Boogie Festival, the inspiration for “On The Hill” — and will be back in Philly this summer for the XPoNential Music Festival, happening July 28 through July 30th. Tickets and more information on the festival can be found at XPNFest.org, and Oaks’ full tour calendar can be found below.
