Ross Bellenoit puts his spin on “Innocent Bones” by Iron & Wine for Future Corpses
We’re just three months into 2017 and already Ross Bellenoit has reimagined classic songs by Eric Clapton, Genesis, and now Iron & Wine. The recordings are part of a year-long project he’s calling Future Corpses, releasing a series of genre-melding covers month by month on his Bandcamp. This time around the local singer/songwriter takes the hushed, organic original cut of “Innocent Bones” that appeared on Sam Beam’s 2007 The Shepherd’s Dog LP and spins it into electrified euphoria.
It’s all for the fun of experimentation, as Bellenoit explains the inspiration for the project:
“In the spring of 2015, completely for my own personal enjoyment, I began recording twisted takes of some of (my) favorite songs. The idea was to take a song (some of which are fairly deep cuts) and arrange it in a way that was filtered through the eyes of an unrelated popular artist. How would Bill Withers interpret a Chris Whitley song? How would Prince interpret an Eric Clapton song? And so on.”
